2015 Baggataway Cup Just One Month Away

2015-10-06

SHERBROOKE, Que. – Bishop’s University is gearing up to host the 2015 Baggataway Cup. The Canadian University Field Lacrosse Association Championships are set to faceoff one month from today, November 6-8 on Coulter Field.

The 31st annual event will pit the best university lacrosse teams from across Quebec and Ontario for the right to be crowned 2015 Baggataway Cup champions.

This year will mark the second time Bishop’s will host the event. In 2004, the Brock Badgers topped the Gaiters in the final.

The Gaiters have one title to their name, having won the event in 2011.

To celebrate the one month to go mark, the organizing committee, spearheaded by Gaiters’ General Manager Drew Pollock, is launching the tournament website and a countdown clock on the Bishop’s Gaiters website. Tournament passes and individual day tickets are now available online.

“The brand new facility we (Bishop’s University) opened last year is a perfect fit for the Baggataway Cup,” said Pollock. “We’ve had a great amount of support from the university, athletic department and community towards lacrosse in recent years and we have a wonderful fan base.  We are really excited to show some of the best lacrosse in the country to this group.”

The Gaiters receive an automatic bid by hosting the tournament but their position is still up in the air. Should they finish first in the CUFLA East division, their first contest would be in the semi-finals on Saturday, while if they finish in another spot they will have a game on Friday in the quarterfinal. Bishop’s currently sits in second in the CUFLA East, two points behind McGill with one game between the two foes remaining.

The complete tournament schedule includes two quarterfinal games on Friday at 6 p.m. and 9 p.m., two semi-final games on Saturday at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. and the Championship Final on Sunday at 1 p.m.   All games will take place on Coulter Field and will be available online at www.gaiters.ca/webcast.

The top three teams from CUFLA East and CUFLA West will compete in Lennoxville from Nov. 6-8, 2015 for the chance to be named Baggataway Cup champions.
