The Guelph Gryphons kept the battle for second place in CUFLA West alive with a 12-9 win over the Brock Badgers Friday night.

They'll need some help for it to happen, but with a 12-9 home win Friday night over Brock, the Guelph Gryphons kept alive the hope that they could grab second place in the CUFLA West division regular season standings.

Guelph went on a 6-1 run spanning the third and fourth quarters to pull off the win and improve to 7-4, pulling within a game of the 8-3 Badgers for second.

To earn the higher seed heading into Baggataway Cup playoffs, the Gryphons will need to finish off the regular season with a win Sunday over Nipissing while hoping that Laurentian can down Brock in a Saturday afternoon game.

Nipissing and Laurentian, meanwhile, are battling for fourth place, so the games today and tomorrow will be important for them, as well. In fact, at 5-5 and with the game Sunday at Guelph, Nipissing hasn't given up hopes for catching the Gryphons to take third place.

Guelph was led by 5 goals and an assist by Michael Cavanagh, a hat trick from Todd Greer and a 20-save performance by goalie Michael Lalani. Nick Karam had 3 goals and an assist to lead Brock.
