Sunday will be CUFLA rubber match day in Ottawa, plus a little CFL playoff football

2015-11-20

Ottawa and Carleton will meet for the third time this year, and certainly in front of the largest crowd yet

Sunday afternoon about 25,000 fans will get a chance to see the Ottawa Gee Gees and Carleton Ravens decide the rubber match in their 2015 CUFLA rivalry. The mini-game will be a half-time feature of the Ottawa Red Blacks sold out Canadian Football League East Division final against the Hamilton TigerCats.

This weekend, both the University of Ottawa and Carleton Ravens men’s lacrosse team's have found themselves with the opportunity of a lifetime.  The two Ottawa based universities will square off against each other in a mini-game at halftime of the CFL’s Eastern Conference championship between the local Ottawa Red Blacks and visiting Hamilton Tiger Cats.

Both teams understand the fun of being able to play in such a publicly hyped sporting environment in front of thousands of onlookers, but don’t kid yourself, with the teams sharing the season series 1 win a piece, the teams will push for a rubber match win, even if it is a light spirited affair.

"The Red Blacks have been great to work with both teams in order to help get the programs into the public spectrum and we have been fortunate to work with Carleton to quickly pull players together in the offseason, even if just for fun.” said Ottawa coach Brett Perras.

The game will serve also as a public reminder for the upcoming December 5th NLL exhibition taking place in Ottawa; a rematch between last years Champions Cup participants, the Toronto Rock and the Saskatchewan Rush (formerly Edmonton.)  That game will be held at The Arena at TD Place with a 7pm face-off.

Come on out to see the Red Blacks take on the Ti-Cats and cheer on your favourite Ottawa university lacrosse team, or come and meet the team at the Champions Cup rematch December 5th.
