Western and Guelph handily won qualifying games to earn berths in the Baggataway Cup Final 6 next weekend.

The Western Mustangs and Guelph Gryphons took early leads en route to big wins to ensure there would be no upsets on the  western side of Baggataway Cup qualifying Saturday.

Western jumped ahead 7-1 after the first quarter and 16-3 at halftime en route to a 20-12 win over Toronto. Thomas Masterson, Nikolai Ferrus and Reid Reinholdt each had hat tricks for the Mustangs, with Masterson adding three assists to lead Western in scoring. Jason Barnable provided the bulk of Toronto's offence with six goals and three assists.

Michael Cavanagh and Alec Simmons scored four goals each as Guelph took leads of 3-1 at the quarter and 8-2 at the half. Michael Lalani stopped 13 of the 15 shots he faced in 50 minutes of action as Guelph hammered Laurentian 14-3.

Western is the CUFLA West top seed for the Baggataway and has a bye to Saturday's 4 pm semifinal, where they will face the winner of Friday's 8 pm quarterfinal between Guelph and the Bishop's Gaiters. Brock was already assured a spot in the Baggataway Cup Final 6 as the host team and will play in the 5 pm quarterfinal Friday against Ottawa.
