Five days after their stunning upset of the defending CUFLA champion McGill Redmen launched Ottawa to their first Baggataway Cup tournament, the Gee-Gees were hoping to reprise the magic as they faced the powerhouse Brock Badgers in Friday's first Baggataway quarter final.
When a pair of Cameron Spencer goals helped them to pull into a 4-4 tie with Brock in the second quarter, things were looking pretty good. The Gee-Gees' carriage turned into a pumpkin pretty quickly, though, as Brock outscored Ottawa 16-4 the rest of the way to advance to the semifinals with a 20-8 win.
Brandon Slade led Brock scoring with three goals and four assists while Connor Ham had five goals for the Badgers. Spencer's two goals and an assist led Ottawa.
Brock will face the Trent Excalibur at 1 pm Saturday in what is expected to be an intense and thrilling game.
The second quarterfinal looked likely to be much closer, but the Guelph Gryphons pulled away with a strong effort all over the field to down the Bishop's Gaiters 18-9 and advance to a semifinal matchup with Western at 4 pm Saturday.

Michael Lalani was solid and at times spectacular in net for the Gryphons, making key saves that allowed Guelph to go on a series of runs that deflated Bishop's.
Brett Ulbikas took control on the offensive end, using his combination of speed, strength and skill to create chances for himself and his teammates. With a few late markers, Ulbikas wound up with six goals and three assists while Michael Cavanagh added five goals as well.
Guelph's defence got strong efforts from Liam Patten, Nicholas Wordtmann and Nathan McKenzie to minimize the damage Bishop's was able to do, although Andrew Neilson got on a roll and wound up with five goals to keep the Gaiters hope's alive for a while.
