Excalibur Dominate Ravens 17-3 on Drizzly Saturday

Trent faced Carleton in Ottawa today in a light rain and rode their impressive offence from the opening whistle. Eight different Excalibur players bulged the twine for what may be East Division’s most well-rounded offence as Trent won 17-3.

The undermanned Ravens gave up four goals in the first quarter including a pair of highlight goals from Ottawa native and recent NLL draftee Nick Finlay. Trent’s Garrett Eddy struck for his first of five on the day with a low bullet shot from a sharp angle while the Excalibur’s big man, Travis Szabolcs, put one in from on top the crease.

Trent built a 7-0 lead on goals by Eddy, Adam Kitchen and Matt Smith before the Ravens’ Hayden Cummings sliced through the Trent defence for his first of the day for a 7-1 Trent lead at the half.

The second half continued in the same way as the first as the Excalibur got two goals from Jeff Fernandes and another from Eddy before Cummings responded with his second of the day. Eddy scored his fourth goal to round out the third quarter for Trent. The quarter finished with a score of 10-2 Trent.

Trent poured it on in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Ravens 7-1 in the final 20 minutes. The Ravens’ Cam Breen scored on a bullet from the top on the power play before the Excalibur's impressive ball movement went on display. Of the seven fourth-quarter goals, six were assisted to underscore Trent’s distribution. Fernandes netted two in the fourth to collect his hat trick, while Adam Perroni picked up two, Kitchen sniped his second, Nick Karam potted one and Eddy finished with his fifth of the day. 

In what would make for a great TSN game of the week, Trent heads to Bishop’s Sunday to battle for second place in the East Division.

Carleton has to regroup and get healthy before hosting Bishop’s next Saturday.
