Jason Rudge Has Interim Tag Removed as Nipissing Head Coach

2017-12-11

Jason Rudge will remain as the head coach at Nipissing.

Jason Rudge took over as interim coach of the Nipissing Lakers partway through the season. He will remain as the head coach going forward.

It's official, the interim tag has been removed fromĀ Jason Rudge's title, as he takes over as the head coach of the Nipissing Lakers lacrosse team.

Rudge finished up last season as the interim head coach, building what he hopes is a solid foundation for the program.

The native of St. Catherines, ON said coming back to the Lakers is a great fit for him and he's hoping to move the program forward.

"This is a great opportunity for me in my lacrosse coaching career to continue to build with the Nipissing program on what we started last year," he said. "With a full season and the talented athletes we have here at Nipissing I see some great things in the near future."

His coaching career began when he was 17, but his first taste of lacrosse came five years before that, when Rudge switched over from baseball to pursue lacrosse with some buddies from his hockey team.

He has an impressive resume when it comes to playing and coaching and he's looking forward to helping the Lakers take the next step as a program.

"We have the talent and passion, we were just short with time. At the end of last season we were just starting to learn our new systems and play this game of lacrosse," Rudge said. "A few more weeks together as a team/coaching staff could have lead us to a playoff seed. We were just that close, but we were able to build a great base moving into the 2018 season."

Rudge said he really enjoyed his time with the Lakers and the team last season and felt the team really came together.

He's looking for more of the same in 2018.
