Week 7 Roundup: Brock Stakes Its Claim As CUFLA West's Top Team, Albeit By a Slim Margin

Week 7 game results, box scores and game stories as the CUFLA season wends its way closer to the Baggataway Cup.

The Brock Badgers scored the last goal of regulation time to force an extra period then scored the last goal of overtime to pull out a 9-8 win over the Western Mustangs Sunday afternoon.

The win was huge for a Badgers side that had lost to Western in overtime in the 2017 Baggataway Cup championship game then by a single goal at home earlier this season.

This time, Brock eked out the win thanks in large part to a hat trick from Kurtis Woodland and a pair of goals each from Jordan Gillis and Cree Blakely. They needed every one of those goals to overcome a 4-goal game from Nik Farrus and 2 goals and 3 assists from Cody Ward for Western.

Now the West Division powerhouses sit tied in the loss column, with only a loss to each other, while Western has 8 wins and Brock 7 heading into the regular season's final week. The teams are tied in the head to head season series with each team winning by a single goal.

In the East Division, meanwhile, McGill and Trent remain on course for an epic battle to decide first place at Trent, Sunday October 28 in one of two games on the season's final day. The Redmen had the week off from official games but did register a win over The Hill Academy.

Trent faced a pair of challenges thanks to slow starts but pulled out wins both Saturday and Sunday, 14-10 over Ottawa then 12-11 over Bishop's. The Gee-Gees led the Excalibur 3-1 after the first quarter and 5-4 at half time but a 7-0 third quarter turned the tide in Trent's favour.

Trent had to climb out of an even deeper whole Sunday when they fell behind 6-0 to the Gaiters through the first quarter. That didn't bode well for a team playing its second road game in 30 hours, but Trent showed resilience in staging another comeback to keep its hopes of finishing atop the East alive.
