TORONTO (CUFLA) – Second-year middie Connor Brown scored four goals in leading the Brock Badgers to an 18-4 victory over the Nipissing Lakers in quarter-final action on Friday night (Nov. 9) at the 2018 Baggataway Cup at Varsity Stadium.

With the win, the Badgers advance to tomorrow’s semifinal, where they will face the East’s top seed Trent Excalibur at 1 p.m.

Brown’s four goals led all players, while second-year attack Campbell Parker scored three goals and added one assist. Fourth-year middie Grayson Houghton had one goal and three assists, while 10 other Badgers scored in the victory.
Nipissing was led by fourth-year veteran Sam Rooney’s two-goal performance, with fourth-year goalie Andrew Wood adding 18 saves in the loss.

Brock came out ready to play, getting out to a 6-0 lead after the first quarter. Parker led the Badgers with two goals and one assist, while Brown had two goals in the first frame. Grayson Houghton and Mackenzie Mitchell added single tallies in the lopsided first quarter.

The Lakers responded though, breaking even with the Badgers in the second quarter thanks to a two-goal effort from Rooney. Brock held an 8-2 lead at halftime.

The Badgers added three more goals in the third quarter, with Brown netting two more and Parker adding one, while the Lakers closed out the third with a goal from Tyler Goodchild in the last minute of play.

Brock rounded out the victory with another six goals in the final frame. Rookie Sam Leclair and third-year middie Alex Pace scored two each, with Davis Neal, Kurtis Woodland and Saul Van Der Zalm adding single tallies. Fourth-year middie Mark Smydo added a late marker for Nipissing.
