Trent jumps out to fast start with 2-0 road weekend as CUFLA 2019 faces off

Nipissing's dynamic duo picked up pretty much where they left off last season, with a bit of a twist, while Trent became the first team to record a pair of wins when they swept games at Queen's and Bishop's in season-opening CUFLA action Saturday and Sunday. 

Scott Dominey and Tanner Poole were the top two scorers in CUFLA in 2018, with Dominey leading the league in goals and Poole earning the most assists. With their Nipissing Lakers playing home games against McGill and Carleton in Week 1, the pair were connecting again.

Early this year, though, they have been joined by Will Craig to turn last year's dynamic duo into a terrific trio. It's not like Craig wasn't a big part of the team last fall, as well, but while he was a distant third on the team then with 32 points (to Dominey's 71 and Poole's 52), Craig led the Lakers with 7 goals and added an assist as Nipissing fell 13-9 to McGill then downed Carleton 15-7. 
Dominey leads the team and the league with 10 points. Last year, his balance leaned towards goal-scoring with 44 compared to 27 assists. In this season's opening weekend his finishing and setting up were perfectly balanced with 5 goals and 5 assists. Poole, meanwhile, had 5 goals and a helper in Nipissing's pair of weekend games. 

Bishop's, Toronto, McGill and Guelph joined Nipissing in logging their first wins of 2019. Only Trent, though, won twice on opening weekend. The Excalibur had to do it on a travel weekend, heading to Kingston first for an 11-5 win over Queen's then continuing to Lennoxville, where they downed Bishop's 8-5 in a defensive battle.
