Nipissing is 5-2 and looking to return to the Baggataway Cup after the Lakers made their first appearance last season.

In 2018, the Nipissing Lakers made it to Baggataway Cup weekend for the first time. In 2019, the Lakers are trying to make it back to back trips. So far, so good.

Nipissing sits at 5-2 through five weeks of the season, good for third place behind unbeaten McGill and 6-1 Trent. It hasn't been easy for the Lakers, though, as they have been squeaking out wins.

The Lakers have much of the cast that led them to their breakout season a year ago back for another run. Tanner Poole is leading the team in scoring with 30 points. Will Craig is tied for the team lead in goals with 16 (one more than Poole).
And, of course, reigning CUFLA scoring champion Scott Dominey is back after spending the CUFLA off-season getting drafted and playing a handful of games for the NLL's Toronto Rock and having a standout rookie season with MSL's Cobourg Kodiaks. That was all after suffering a serious shoulder injury in the Lakers' playoff game last fall that cost him a chance to play in the Baggataway Cup.
Nipissing opened the season splitting their first four games; they lost by 4 to McGill and by 2 to Trent sandwiched around wins over Carleton and Bishop's. Then came a three-game winning streak, each of which was a tight contest.
In Week 4, Nipissing took a pair of road games; they edged Ottawa 11-10 and Queen's 5-4 thanks to a late-game sequence that led to Craig's game-winner.
This week, they kept the wins coming with a slightly more comfortable 11-8 home victory over Ottawa.
So while they're in a good position with five wins and a game and a four-point lead over Queen's for third in the East, the tightness of these last three wins means Nipissing knows they still have work to do this season if they want to get back to the championship weekend.

Below are the full results from Week 5 of the CUFLA season followed by team writeups.
