Badgers Triple Mustangs 12-4 to Take Over First Place in West

We're used to close games between Brock and Western. In 2018, the teams met three times and every game was decided by a single goal, including the Mustangs' 9-8 overtime win in the Baggataway Cup championship game. 

So it's doubly stunning to see the result of Thursday's game in St. Catharines, in which the home Badgers tripled the score of the previously undefeated Mustangs, downing Western 12-4. 

Brock got goals from eight different players, including a hat trick by Sam Leclair, en route to the win. It's never wise to draw broad conclusions from one game, but it would be difficult not to see the Badgers' win firmly establishing them as among the favourites to win this year's Baggataway Cup.

Of course, Brock is perennially among the favourites, as is Western. It won't be too long before we get an idea if the Badgers can do it again: Brock visits Western next Friday, October 25.

Badgers Head Coach Tim Luey certainly liked what he saw from his team in Wednesday's game. ""It was a great team effort for a complete 60 minutes," Luey told gobadgers.ca. "I think it shows us what we're capable of as a team."

Western won its other two games to remain just half a game behind Brock.
Trent moved into a first-place tie with McGill at 14 points each, improving to 7-1 with a 10-6 win over Nipissing that drops the Lakers to 6-3 but still leaves Nipissing solidly in third place in the East. McGill had the week off, keeping them a perfect 7-0.
