McGill won the East and Brock the West. The 2019 Baggataway Cup playoffs are ready to get under way starting this Thursday.

McGill Head Coach Tim Murdoch's final regular season game was a successful one, but it was a tight battle for McGill to pull out a 5-3 win over Trent on Saturday to clinch an undefeated regular season and first place in the East Division.

Elsewhere, Brock dominated Western again to finish their own perfect season atop the West and the rest of the playoff fields were set with the end of the regular season Sunday.

McGill scored the first goal in each of the first three quarters at Trent, but each time the Excalibur responded with a goal less than three minutes later.

Hunter Zawada's second goal of the game at 11:41 of the third was the first time either team scored more than once in a quarter. It proved to be the winning goal as Michael Gallo finished off a sensational game in net for McGill by shutting Trent out for the final 24 minutes.

Senior Max Murdoch, the coach's son, gave McGill a little insurance when he found himself covered by a short pole and worked his way in for a well-placed bounce shot through traffic to make it 5-3 at the 5:14 mark of the fourth quarter.

Brock, who has lost to Western in each of the last two Baggataway Cup championship games, finished off a brilliant regular season by downing the Mustangs 15-7 on Thursday then taking care of business in a doubleheader against McMaster on the weekend. The Badgers closed out the remainder of an earlier game suspended because of lightning 10-1 then followed that up with an 11-3 win in the finale.

Bishop's downed Queen's 7-4 in Sunday's showdown for fourth place in the East, setting up a playoff match at Nipissing while Queen's will travel to Trent seeking a Baggataway Cup weekend berth.

In the West, Toronto wrapped up third place with a 12-4 win over Laurier. The Varsity Blues finish ahead of Guelph, with whom they tied at 6-4, because they downed the Gryphons in the only head to head game of the season between the schools.
