Defender
Curtis Conley of Ottawa scored 90 seconds into sudden-death overtime, lifting Trent to a stunning 9-8 come-from-behind upset over top-seeded Brock in semifinal play at the Canadian University Field Lacrosse Association championship tournament, Saturday, at Percival Molson Stadium.

Trent advances to the Baggataway Cup championship final on Sunday (Nov. 10) at noon against the Western Mustangs, who downed undefeated McGill 6-5 in the other semifinal. The gold medal contest will be played at Concordia Stadium, due to an overlapping CFL playoff game between the Edmonton Eskimos and Montreal Alouettes.

The Badgers, who entered the tourney with a perfect 10-0 record, led 4-1 after the opening quarter but watched in disbelief as Trent battled back to make it 5-5 at halftime. The teams were deadlocked at 6-6 after three quarters and 8-8 at the end of regulation.

Conley's game-winner came against the run of play. After Excalibur goalkeeper Dylan Munro made a key save, his teammates connected on a neat three-way pass, putting Conley alone down the right flank. With no Brock players impeding him, the 5-foot-10, 190-pound defenceman unleashed a sizzling shot, beating Brock goalkeeper Simon Bellamy above his left-shoulder for the unexpected victory.

Nick Chaykowsky, a 6-foot-4 midfielder from Bradford, Ont., collected points on seven of the Excalibur's nine goals, including a second quarter hat trick within a nine-minute window. The remainder of Trent's offence came from a trio of Peterborough, Ont., natives, with Adam Kitchen and Cole McWilliams notching two apiece and Nic Andreoli scoring once.

A dozen penalties were called in the game with only three going to Trent. However, the Excalibur somehow managed to score shorthanded on all three occasions, courtesy of Kitchen twice and Andreoli once.

Leading the way for Brock, Kurtis Woodland from Fergus, Ont., also scored shorthanded en route to a hat trick. Teammates Sam Leclair from Welland, Ont., and Campbell Parker of Georgetown, Ont., registered four points each, with Leclair scoring twice. Grayson Houghton, a midfielder from Orangeville, Ont., also added a pair of goals.

Munro, an education freshman from Toronto, turned aside 21 of 29 shots in goal for Trent and was credited with the victory. Bellamy, a native of Ottawa, took the loss for Brock, making 22 saves on 31 shots.
