The University of Toronto is pleased to announce that Jon Moore has been named Varsity Blues men's lacrosse head coach, effective immediately.

Moore has served as U of T's assistant coach for the past three seasons under recently retired head coach Joe Nizich.

Nizich became the head coach and manager of the Blues in 2010. Since then, he guided the men's lacrosse program to nine post-season appearances, earning CUFLA coaching staff of the year honours in 2011. Under his leadership, and for the first time in program history, the University of Toronto hosted the 2018 Baggataway Cup at Varsity Stadium. Moore is excited to continue to grow the program following Nizich's retirement.

"I feel like since I arrived we have been building towards an opportunity to challenge for the Baggataway with the players who are now entering their third and fourth year showing tremendous growth," said Moore. "When I first arrived as an assistant in 2017, we talked about the strength of this group of players and how we felt like we could be challenging to not just go, but contend. Myself and the rest of the coaching staff are extremely optimistic about our chances this year."

Moore started out as the Blues defensive coordinator in 2017 before taking over the offence in 2018 and 2019. Prior to U of T, Moore coached the Nipissing University field lacrosse team for five seasons (2012-16) after three seasons in the North Bay Youth Lacrosse League.

As a player, Moore has excelled at all levels across Ontario over the past three decades. After getting his start in the St. Catharines Minor Lacrosse Club and joining their Junior A team, Moore founded and captained the Nipissing University Lacrosse Club in 2003. He played for the Sudbury and Sioux Lookout Masters squads, before playing at Lakehead University in 2011-12. Since then, Moore has played for the North Bay Masters as well as in the Ontario Master League from 2013-18.

Moore holds a Bachelor of Arts honours with distinction and a Bachelor of Education from Nipissing University, and is pursuing his Master's degree of education from Lakehead University.
