The Canadian University Field Lacrosse Association is coming back.
After having to cancel the 2020 season because of the pandemic, CUFLA is planning for a 2021 season. Things will be a bit different for this year, with a change to divisional alignment and a reduced schedule, but the league is excited to get its student-athletes back on the field this fall.
For this season only, CUFLA's 14 teams will be divided into three divisions rather than the usual two.
This will allow teams to minimize the number of teams with which they interact and to virtually eliminate the need for overnight travel in the regular season.
The divisional alignment for 2021 will be:
East
McGill, Bishop's, Queen's, Ottawa, Carleton
Central
Trent, Nipissing, Toronto, Laurentian
West
Brock, Western, Guelph, McMaster, Wilfrid Laurier
Teams will play a six-game regular season schedule beginning the third week of September and concluding in late October. Schools in the central division will play a double round robin while teams in the east and west will play a full round-robin plus two more games based on the order of finish in the 2019 regular season.
All games will be conducted respecting provincial and school pandemic protocols, including whether and how many fans will be allowed to attend as well as planning to have officials work in cohorts to minimize exposure to different groups.
