Week 1 Results

CUFLA's 2021 season got underway last weekend with six games, two in each of the three divisions that were created specifically for this fall's pandemic-impacted season.

Central Division
The Nipissing Lakers launched their road to hosting the Baggataway Cup with a convincing 21-2 win over the Laurentian Voyageurs. Lakers All-Canadian and current NLL player Scott Dominey exploded for 13 points on 8 goals and 5 assists. 

Trent Excalibur travelled to Toronto and came away with a 10-3 win. Trent blew open a close game with a 5-0 fourth quarter, led by Taite Cattoni scoring two of his game-high four games in the final 20 minutes. 

East Division
Liam McCrory scored two of his four goals in a strong opening quarter for Ottawa, which gave the Gee-Gees a 4-0 lead from which Carleton could never recover as Ottawa beat the Ravens 11-6.

Bishop's won every quarter as they pulled gradually away from Queen's to defeat the Gaels 16-7. The Gaiters were led by 5 goals and 5 assists from Sam Firth, who was a 2020 draft pick of the NLL's Georgia Swarm and was recently traded to the Colorado Mammoth. 

West Division
Brock also used a strong first quarter to take control of their opening game, outscoring the McMaster Marauders 4-0 in the first period en route to a 15-6 win. Nathan Braniff was the Badgers' top scorer, netting 4 goals and adding 4 assists. 

No one scored for the first 15 minutes of Guelph's game against Laurier. The Golden Hawks never did find the back of the net, but Gryphons managed to break that shutout string, scoring 14 led by Mark Wilson's 4 and Connor Watson's 3 to give Guelph a 14-0 win.
