The Brock Badgers were up against the wall, and they responded with about as good a quarter of lacrosse as you could ask for.

The result of their 7-1 fourth-quarter dominance on Thursday night was a 13-8 home win over the Western Mustangs just six days after Western had beaten the Badgers 15-8 in London.

Brock took a 5-3 lead into halftime but the lead slipped away as the Mustangs responded with a 4-1 third quarter. Western extended their lead to 8-6 when they scored 1:44 into the fourth. Then, the biggest run in a game of runs turned the tide in the Badgers' favour.

Brock scored 3 goals in a six-minute span to edge ahead at the midpoint of the quarter. No one scored for the next five minutes, but then Alex Pace got his third of the game (to go along with 4 assists, making him the game-high scorer) to provide a bit of padding.

Then, with Western pushing to draw even by pulling their goalie and putting pressure on the Brock attack, the Badgers tallied three more goals in a 56-second span to put the game away.

"We cleaned up our mistakes this time against Western," Brock head coach Vince Longboat told Brock Athletics. "We played extemely well against one of the top teams. It's going to come down to us, Western and Guelph. We'll watch their game on Sunday with great interest."

The win improves Brock's record to 4-1 while Western drops to 3-1. Guelph also has just one loss, sitting at 2-1. The team that finishes first in the West Division this season will play the fourth-place team for a berth in the Baggataway Cup at Nipissing University in North Bay November 5-7, while the second- and third-place teams will battle for the West's other spot in the championship weekend.
