Brock faced a challenge from the Queen's Gaels in the second Baggataway Cup quarterfinal but the Badgers eventually pulled away for the win.

In the second quarter-final of the day, the Brock Badgers took on the Queens Gaels.

The Badgers entered the weekend as the third seed and the Gaels come into the weekend as the sixth and final entry.

The Badgers blasted the McMaster Marauders in the qualification game to advance to the championship weekend, while the Gaels doubled up the Ottawa Gee Gees in their matchup.

An exciting game eventually saw the higher-ranked Badgers take control and pick up the 17-10 win to move on to Day 2 of the tournament,

Starting things off were the Gaels, who came out strong as the underdog and grabbed an early two-goal lead, seeming to catch the Badgers off-guard.

It didn't take long for the Badgers to reply, however, gaining some traction and closing the gap quickly.

After some back and forth play, the Badgers jumped out to a late first half lead, up 8-4.

Queen's answered back to make it 8-5, closing the gap as the clock continued to wind down in the opening half.

That was all the scoring for the first half and after 40 minutes of play, Brock had a three-goal advantage.

The teams turned on the offence in the second half, combining for 14 goals.

Brock managed nine of those tallies, as they pulled away in the third and sealed the game in the fourth, showing a lot of skill and creativity in the process, posting eight first half goals and 10 in the second 40 minutes.

After the final whistle, the Badgers came away with a 17-10 triumph to advance to the next round.

Bryan Poetker had a strong night for Queens, scoring four times in a losing cause, while Owen Strickland and Noah Milsap each added a pair of goals to power the Gaels offence.

Josh Rex and Mitch Gustavson recorded hat-tricks for the Badgers, along with Connor Aquanno and Nathan Braniff tallying two goals each.

For the Gaels, the weekend and season has come to an end with the loss.

The Badgers are now set to face the Bishop's Gaiters in the semi-finals, Saturday at 6pm.
