2023-09-21

Jacob Hickey with NLL Commissioner Brett Flood

10 student-athletes currently playing at CUFLA schools were selected in last weekend's National Lacrosse League entry draft.

Jacob Hickey was the first CUFLA student-athlete selected in last Saturday's National Lacrosse League entry draft. Before the day was done, nine other CUFLA players' names would be called as they were picked by NLL teams. Four of the players were selected in the first round.

Players from seven different CUFLA schools were taken in the draft, including three from the Brock Badgers and two from the Guelph Gryphons.

Hickey was picked 8th overall by the Georgia Swarm. The Western Mustang played for the Jr A Toronto Beaches in the summer.

Three other schools saw student-athletes picked in the first round of the six-round draft.
Guelph's Nicholas Volkov was taken 14th by the Albany FireWolves. Two picks later, the Rochester Knighthawks made a trade so they could take Ben McDonnell from Trent.
Brock goalie Connor O'Toole was also the target of a trade as the Vancouver Warriors moved up to take him 18th.
