Carleton clinched a home playoff game, Western remained unbeaten and looks dominant in the West, and McMaster climbed into the thick of the home playoff game hunt in CUFLA Week 5 action.

Carleton 11, Queen's 4 (Friday, October 6)

The Carleton Ravens started strong and coasted to a big win over the Queen's Gaels on Friday night. Sam Trumble and Michael Murawsky each scored twice to establish a 4-1 Ravens lead after the first quarter and the home side extended that lead to 7-2 at the half as Carleton assured they will be playing a playoff game at home in Ottawa.

Trumble and Cameron York each wound up with 3 goals and 2 assists to lead the way for Carleton, who sits in first place in the East Division at 7-1. That sets up a huge game in terms of the regular-season division championship this weekend as the Ravens visit Trent. The Excalibur, 5-1, were off in Week 5 but play host to Carleton this Friday at 7:30 pm in the first half of CUFLA's Game of the Week doubleheader weekend on LacrosseTV (the second half is Bishop's at Trent, Saturday at 6:00 pm).

Western 12, Brock 2 (Saturday, October 7)

The Mustangs and Badgers have a long and storied rivalry featuring loads of tight, competitive games, including a pair of double overtime contests among the last five Baggataway Cup championship games. Their Week 5 matchup was a sharp departure from that history. Jacob Hickey opened the scoring with his first of 4 goals just three minutes into the game, the Mustangs were up 5-1 at the half and they just kept pulling away in the third with another 6 goals.

While their offence is impressive, the Mustangs are holding foes to historically low goal totals, as well. They have allowed just 19 goals en route to a 6-0 start, which puts them on pace for the lowest total since at least 2007. While the Mustangs will play 10 games this year, that record low pace even includes seasons in which teams played fewer games, and their goals per game is lower than any teams achieved in that span in 12-game seasons.

McMaster 4, Laurier 3 (Friday, October 6)

Speaking of defensive performance, the Marauders and Golden Hawks engaged in a defensive battle that saw a single goal scored in the entire first half. That was a power play marker by McMaster's Nick Seriniuck, which proved to be crucial to the Marauders' win as the teams scored once each in the third quarter and twice apiece in the fourth.

Mac had to mount a comeback in that fourth quarter as Laurier had pulled ahead with goals from Thomas Macdonald and Declan McEvoy to hold a 3-2 lead that they held into the final two minutes of the game.

Then Lucas Ilic got a power play goal to tie the game with 1:47 to play, setting the stage for dramatics from Jacob Morrisey. He scored with just 9 ticks left on the clock to give the Marauders the win.

That improved McMaster to 4-2 overall, tied with Brock. Laurier bounced back on Sunday in another tight battle with an 8-7 win over Nipissing that made 4-3.

Other scores in Week 5
Brock 12, Guelph 10
Nipissing 9, Toronto 3
Laurier 8, Nipissing 7
