Western won a Saturday playoff game to advance to the Baggataway Cup.

And then there were three.

The Western Mustangs became the third team booked for the November 3-5 Baggataway Cup with a dominating 14-6 win over the Nipissing Lakers in London Saturday night.

Nipissing opened the scoring just 46 seconds into their CUFLA playoff game at Western on Saturday, but the Mustangs bounced back with a vengeance. Western scored 5 goals, including a pair each from Chris Dong and Connor Murphy, before the end of the first quarter to take a 5-2 lead into the break.

Western continued to roll, outscoring Nipissing 4-1 in each of the second and third quarters, with Dong and Murphy both completing hat tricks. Murphy added a pair of assists to lead all players in scoring while Jacob Hickey chipped in 4 assists.

The Lakers kept battling, outscoring Western 2-1 in the fourth quarter. In doing so, they became only the second team to score more than 5 goals against the Mustangs all season.

Western now advances to the Baggataway Cup as the West Division #1 seed. They receive a bye to the semifinals on Saturday, November 4 against.

Trent and Brock are also assured spots in the final six weekend, the defending champion Excalibur as the hosts and the Badgers after winning a playoff game against Laurier on Thursday.

The final three competitors at the Baggataway will be decided Sunday afternoon as McMaster visits Guelph, Queen's goes to Montreal to face McGill and Bishop's is in Ottawa to face the East top seeded Carleton Ravens.
