It’s a Wrap!

It’s a Wrap!

There’s a saying on the Brock bench that must irritate the opposition. When the Badgers put there sticks together the chant is, “the cup comes home”. At the opening of 2009 CUFLA campaign few believed it. But the Badgers have battled their way to a perfect record and after this weekend’s performances they have to be considered favourites to bring the cup home again. After seventeen championships, Brock is home for the Bank of America Baggataway Cup.

The Badgers capped a perfect season with a 17-8 tilt over Laurier and a 13-5 thumping of pre-season favourite, Guelph. Sadly, this version of the rivalry did not live up to its billing. Brock had an 8-0 half time lead.

The McMaster Marauders, who finished in second place in the west, jumping up two places from last season, will have to recover from a severe spanking, 14-5, at the hands of the Guelph Gryphons on Saturday. The Gryphs finished in third place with a 6-4 record, two points up on Western, who finished fourth.

The power in Peterborough is real. Trent beat both McGill 12-7, and Bishop's, 12-4, to repeat as champions of the east with an 8 and 2 record. The Redmen took second with 14 points and Bishop's went winless this weekend to drop into a third place tie with the cup hosts from Carleton.

Trent’s two big wins sets them apart as the class of the east, but Queen's 9-8 win over Bishop's was a surprise upset. The Gaiters beat both McGill and Trent during the season, but remain an enigma going into the playoffs.

The Carleton Ravens made the biggest move this year, jumping from 2 wins last season to 6 wins and a tie for third place. The McMaster Marauders also made a significant leap over Western and Guelph into second place in the west.

Congratulations to the guys from Queen's, Laurier, Laurentian and U of T who all battled through a tough season. These teams all had great moments and they all have  some outstanding players, but not as many as the other teams in their conference.
