Mustangs Ground Hawks

Kyle Childerhose opened the scoring for London just under five minutes into the opening frame. Scott Watson followed that up less than a minute later with his seventh goal of the season before Dylan Ham and Ryan McCrory each hopped on the scoring bandwagon.

Trailing 8-0, it wouldn’t be until early in the third quarter before Laurier’s Drew Barfoot finally managed to put one past Western goalkeeper Zach Grace.

Unfortunately for the Golden Hawks, the Mustangs answered that back with two of their own in short succession.

By the time the final whistle was blown, it was Western adding another two points to their season tally, posting a 14-4 win.

Once again, it was McCrory and Ham leading the way on the scoreboard, each with four goals and one assist. Other Western goal scorers included Shane Snider, Eric Pitre, Winter Dockstader and Sam Neeb.

As of Monday (Oct. 15) the Western Mustangs were sitting in a log jam at the top of the Canadian University Field Lacrosse Association (CUFLA) standings.

Currently tied with Brock and Guelph in the West and Bishop’s and McGill in the East — all with 16 — points, the Mustangs post season ranking will likely be determined by the results from their last three regular season games.

On Wednesday (Oct. 17), Western goes up against the Golden Hawks once again, this time under the lights at Budd Park in Kitchener before wrapping up the regular season schedule at home this weekend. On Friday (Oct. 19), it will be the Brock Badgers filling the visitors bench at TD Waterhouse Stadium followed by McMaster on Saturday (Oct. 20), both games starting at 7:30 p.m.
