Guelph, Ont. - The Guelph Gryphon men's lacrosse team kicked off their 2013 campaign with a 7-6 come from behind win against Western on Saturday (Sept. 7).

The Gryphons relinquished an early 2-1 lead in the second quarter and played from behind until late in the third.   Down 5-4 with less than 20 seconds left in the quarter, veteran attack man Taylor Brown (Peterborough, ON) tied the game and completed the hat trick after taking a sweet feed from midfielder Jordan Critch (Orangeville, ON).

Western went up 6-5 with 12 minutes remaining in the final quarter, but the Gryphon defense, anchored by veteran goalie Jeremy Snider (Kitchener, ON) kept the Gryphons in the game.   Midfielder Connor Deuchars (Toronto, ON) found his way through the Western defense with 4:44 remaining and buried a low shot behind Western's goalie to tie it up at 6.  Two minutes later, Curtis Knight (Oshawa, ON) turned a Western defender inside out with a great fake and then ripped out a top corner, recording the winner for the Gryphons.

"This was a character win for us," said Gryphon Coach Sam Kosakowski.  "Despite having too many turnovers we were able to stay focused, and finish.  Our defense played tough and Jeremy was big when we needed him to be."

The defense faced two 6 vs 4 man down situations early in the game but only gave up one goal.  Then, with less than a minute remaining in the game, the Gryphons took a penalty and finished the game a man down.

Jeremy Snider was voted the team's player of the game after recording 16 saves in the game, including one he soaked in the right arm with 15 seconds remaining.

Rounding out the scoring for Guelph were Jordan Critch with 1 goals and 3 assists, Taylor Brown with 3 goals, Curtis Knight with 2 goals and 1 assist and Connor Deuchars wth 1 and 1.
