The Canadian University Field Lacrosse Association season kicked off with a bang as Bishop’s University hosted the Great Canadian Lax Bash for the Eastern Conference this past weekend.

All six teams from the Eastern Conference participated, with the hometown Gaiters establishing themselves as the class of the division early on in the season.

Bishop’s handled the University of Toronto Varsity Blues 12-8 on Saturday and then disposed of the Trent University Excalibur 12-3 on Sunday afternoon.

McGill University also did well in the first weekend of play, as the Redmen had a rare shutout, beating Trent 5-0 on Saturday. They followed that up on Sunday with another solid defensive effort, topping U of T 12-3.

Carleton University joined McGill and Bishop’s at the top of the Eastern Conference after dispatching Queen’s University 10-4 and 13-4 in a home-and-home series.

Out west, the Wilfrid Laurier University Goldenhawks travelled to Sudbury where they sank the Laurentian University Voyageurs 15-7. On Sunday, the University of Guelph Gryphons held off the University of Western Ontario Mustangs for a 10-6 win.

This Saturday the Toronto Nationals of Major League Lacrosse will be hosting the Western Conference’s version of the Great Canadian Lax Bash, as eight CUFLA teams will be facing off at Lamport Station in downtown Toronto. Admission is just $5 at the gate to see all four games.
