ST. CATHARINES, Ont – Former Brock men's lacrosse players Sandy Chapman, Anthony Cosmo, Jon Sullivan and Ryan Cousins have all been named to Team Canada for the upcoming World Indoor Lacrosse Championships being held in Prague, Czech Republic May 21-28, 2011. Rounding out the CUFLA contingent are University of Western Ontario graduates Mike Carnegie and Bill Greer, and Wilfred Laurier’s Colin Doyle. Team Canada’s leadership group includes former Brock lacrosse coach Johnny Mouradian who serves as Canada's General Manager, as well McMaster head coach and 2010 CUFLA champion Ed Comeau.
"It was obviously a pretty special time and place to have all four of these guys on the same team (in 2003), and just to have them all at Brock," said former coach Dan Pilon. "I think what really stands out is not only the talent that runs through all four, but the leadership qualities. Such great, character players who represented the team, and the school, proudly."
Chapman played five seasons with the Badgers capturing four championships. During his time at Brock he completed both an undergraduate Bachelor of Science honours degree in 2005 and a Master's of Science degree in 2009.
In Brock lacrosse history he is one of the all-time best midfielders. At the professional level, Chapman has played 10 seasons in the NLL with two different teams including the Toronto Rock and Rochester Knighthawks. In 134 career regular season games, he has recorded 94 career points while registering 545 career loose balls. In 2010, Chapman was named the NLL Defensive Player of the Year.
Cosmo was a two-sport athlete at Brock playing both lacrosse and hockey graduating in 2003 with a Bachelor of Physical Education. He was a member of the two championship teams in 2002 and 2003. In 11 seasons in the NLL, Cosmo has played with three different teams including the Toronto Rock, San Jose Stealth, and for the past three seasons with the Boston Blazers. In 161 career games he has played in 6,803 minutes while recording a record of 60-48 with 4,179 career saves and an impressive 10.28 GAA and .782 save percentage.
Sullivan played five seasons with the Badgers from 2002-2006 winning five consecutive CUFLA titles. He graduated from Brock in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts. In the NLL, Sullivan has played his entire 7-year career with the Minnesota Swarm. He has played in 104 regular season games adding 11 goals and 39 assists for 50 points. He has also collected 385 loose balls.
Cousins was a key component during Brock's 2002 and 2003 championship teams. In 2004 he graduated from Brock with Bachelor of Sport Management degree. As a professional in the NLL, Cousins has played in 128 regular season contests adding 31 goals and 47 assists for 78 career points. The two-time NLL Defensive Player of the Year has also registered 567 career loose balls.
Mouradian, who coached the Badgers in the late 80's and early 90's, has enjoyed a great lacrosse career as a coach, general manager and player.
In NLL history, Mouradian is the only General Manager to win five championships. In 2004 with the San Jose Stealth, he was named National Lacrosse League GM of the Year Award. In February 2008, Mouradian was inducted into the National Lacrosse League Hall of Fame.
As a player, Mouradian played collegiate lacrosse at Ithaca College, and is a member of the school's Hall of Fame. He was also a member of the 1978 Team Canada, which upset Team USA in the World Lacrosse Championships.
