Update to CUFLA East playoff scenarios: Ottawa/Queen's rainout to be finished this Sunday

Hold the phone a second. We were a bit premature with our post on Tuesday of this week addressing the playoff situation in CUFLA East. A gentle reminder from Queen's coach Don Tough pointed out that the records on our standings page aren't quite accurate. 

You see, the Gaels visited Ottawa on September 10 but the teams weren't able to complete the game because of rain. Ottawa had taken a 6-1 halftime lead but Queen's had responded with the only three goals of the third quarter when the action had to be suspended. (Here's how the game had played out to that point)

The Gaels and Gee-Gees agreed to complete the final five minutes of the third quarter and the fourth prior to their regularly scheduled game in Kingston this Sunday. 

So while the standings currently show Queen's at 4-6 and Ottawa at 3-7, the teams are actually 4-5 and 2-7, respectively, pending the completion of the September 10 game. 

Ottawa still has a tough road ahead if they want to move up from sixth place and improve their playoff seeding. The Gee-Gees face Trent at home on Saturday then have the unusual double header on Sunday at Queen's. 

The Gaels, though, have a golden opportunity to improve their situation this weekend even if they can't upset the red-hot McGill Redmen on Satuday. A comeback to win the completion of the first game against Ottawa would give them a chance to get to six wins on the season if they can take the full game as well. 

That would serve to make the potential tiebreaker scenarios even more chaotic with Nipissing (4-6) and Bishop's (5-5) facing each other twice this weekend.
